L'arbre ne fleurit qu'au bout de 15 ans et produit alors des fruits verts/marrons annuellement sur une durée de cent à deux cents ans. Un arbre à karité peut vivre jusqu'à trois cents ans. C'est entre 20 et 30 d'âge que l'arbre commence ça pleine production de fruits, en moyenne 20 kg de fruits frais par arbre. Ce qui fait à peu près 6 kg d'amandes sèches, de quoi faire 2 kg de beurre de karité.

The tree starts flowering and bearing fruit annually starting at age 15 and for 100 to 200 years. A tree can live to 300 years of age. Full fruit production starts at 20 to 30 years of age, the average yield being around 20 kg of fresh fruit per adult tree. These in turn make 6 kg of dry shea nuts or 2 kg of shea butter.
