L'hôtel a été construit par l'homme d'affaires Najib Salha avec le concours des architectes Edward Durell Stone, Joseph Salerno, Ferdinand Dagher et Rodolphe Elias. Il fait partie de la chaine des Hôtels InterContinental, même si le nom de la chaine ne figure plus depuis 2012. L'hôtel a été le champ de batailles féroces lors de la guerre des hôtels pendant la guerre civile libanaise entre 1975 et 1976 et a été laissé à l'abandon jusqu'à la fin des années 90. L'hôtel a réouvert ses portes en mars 2000 après une rénovation massive. On voit le fameux Holiday Inn en arrière-plan.
Beirut, Lebanon. The Phoenicia Hotel Beirut. Built by businessman Najib Salha, the building was designed by architects Edward Durell Stone, Joseph Salerno, Ferdinand Dagher and Rodolphe Elias. It is part of the InterContinental Hotels chain, but has dropped the reference from its name in 2012. The Phoenicia bacame a battlefield during the Lebanese Civil War in 1975-1976 and was left an abandoned ruin until the late 90s. After a massive restauration, the hotel reopened in March 2000. One can see the famous Holiday Inn in the background.
