Yangshan Quarry

Nankin, Chine. Carrière de pierres de Yangshan. Stèle monolithique. Ici la tête de la stèle : 10,7m de haut, 20,3m de large, 8,4m d'épaisseur, poids 6118 tonnes. C'est au début du XIVe siècle que l'empéreur Yongle voulait le plus grand monument imaginable pour honorer son père, le fondateur de la dynastie Ming. C'est dans cette carrière que devait se faire le plus grand mémorial du monde.

Nanjing, China. Yangshan quarry. Monolithic stele. Here the stele head: 10.7m tall, 20.3m wide, 8.4m thick, weighing 6,118 metric tons. In the beginning of the 15th century, emperor Yongle decided to have the greatest monument imaginable monument to honor his father, founder of the Ming dynasty. It was supposed to be errected on his tomb. It is here, in this quarry, that he ordered the construction of the stele in three parts. It was supposed to be the world's biggest memorial.
